Cara Cromwell (カーラ・クロムウェル Kāra Kuromuweru) is the benevolent queen of the vampires of the Kingdom of Vlad and one of the main characters of The Earth Defense Force.
Appearance[]
She has medium-length white hair unlike her peers, alongside the signature red eyes of the Vampire race. For an attire, she wore a dress that partially exposed her upper torso alongside a bit of her cleavage and a belt around her waist. She wore tight socks that showed her thighs. She had a robe and on the shoulder lengths she shows a bit of skin as well on her shoulders. She had a crown on her forehead.

Evil Universe's Timeline[]
In the Evil Universe's timeline, Gram was able to successfully infect Cara with one of his magical bugs with the assistance from Kitae Uehara and Azuma Kamimura, both of whom were already infected by Gram's bugs and were brainwashed to be his minions. Despite her attempts to resist her uncle, Gram used his bug to controls Cara's body and forced his niece to undergo "training" for one week with the purpose of mentally reconditioning Cara to be his submissive slave. Although the bug made Cara suffer amnesia whenever its not active, Cara was able realize her predicament and can up with plan with Marika to try to stop her uncle after his failed attempt at assassinating Marika, being unaware of Marika's immortality from being magically bounded to Cara. Unfortunately, Gram was able to figure out Cara's plan, and arrange for Kitae to capture Marika with her barrier before Marika could kill Gram. With their planed foiled, Gram's bug eventually fused itself to Cara's nervous system and Cara was successfully brainwashed to by Gram's slave, with Marika suffering the same fate not long after. Now that the queen of the vampires was under his control, Gram become the secret dictator to the Kingdom of Vlad and was free to run his human/vampire/Kaiju trafficking ring with little issue. While under his thralldom, Gram eventually impregnate Cara with his child, along with his other brainwashed victims Kitae, Azuma, and Marika.
Personality[]
Cara is an amiable and unwarlike vampire queen who expresses interest with interacting with humans. She considers them companions instead of food and also possesses no issue with working alongside them.
Like any good ruler should, Cara shows genuine concern for her people and kingdom, e.g. when they are danger of being in the clutches of the plans of her vicious uncle Gram. Another major instance is when she led her kingdom to oppose the Underworld Legion's invasion and subjugation of all life on Earth by forming the Vladian Pact with anti-Legion factions from the Underworld. Multiple occasions show that Cara legitimately wants to protect her nation and the Underworld from anything that could be a potential threat against it. As implied above, she does not seek to oppress the humans of the surface world.

Abilities[]
Cara is known to be one of the most powerful vampires in the world, possibly on the same level as Edwin Black, if not slightly more of less. Therefore, she has abilities that make even the fiercest nobility of the Underworld fear.
- Vampiric Longevity – Like many naturally born vampires, Cara stopped physically aging once she reached adulthood, giving her a youthful appearance despite being over a century old. Cara's longevity prevent her from dying of old age but she can still be killed through other means.
- Weapon Creation – Like many other vampire from the Kingdom of Vlad, Cara can use for body to create weapon. In Cara's case, she is able form black spears from her back which can act like flexible appendages.
- Wings of Kin – Cara is able sprout a pair of large leathery, bat-like like wings from for back. These wings allow Cara to fly and are highly durable. Cara can use these wings as shields to defend herself from attack and they are able to protect her whole body.
- Soul Bind – Cara has the ability to bind her soul to one person of her choosing. This ability has been passed down the vampire monarchy for generations and is meant to be used on the current ruler's intended mate. For this reason, the act of soul binding is seen as something akin to a marriage ceremony for Vlad's royal family. The binding can only be done once and is permanent. Once Cara bind her soul to someone, her new "eternal partner" is given the abilities of regenerative immortality and a certain level of synchronization with Cara. If Cara's partner is "killed", Cara would become visibly ill, but once her partner is resurrected, Cara will return to normal. Cara's eternal partner will be able to recover from any injury, including dismemberment and fatal attacks, so long as Cara herself remains alive. In the event Cara is killed, her eternal partner will die with her. Also, the eternal partner would need time to recover for their injuries, otherwise they would not be able to fight at full strength. Time it takes to recover depends on the severity of the injuries. Eventually, its revealed that Cara's bounded her soul to her knight, Marika Krishna, after she was fatally poisoned by Gram, both as a means to save her right-hand woman and out of genuine love for Marika.

Etymology[]
The name Carla is the feminine variation of Carl which means free man. Cara, on the other hand, means friend.
Cromwell means Lives by the winding stream. She shared the last name with Oliver Cromwell, the Lord Protector of England before his death.

Trivia[]
- Cara has stated that she never once drank the blood of a human. However, she, albeit jokingly, has said that if she were to drink the blood of a human, she wants the person to be a beautiful woman. She does add on if she had to pick between Azuma and Marika to be the hypothetical human, she would pick Marika.
